  • OAuth Implementation Guidance

    OAuth Implementation Guidance

Implementing OAuth can enhance the security and usability of your application by enabling secure access to protected resources without the need to share passwords. Here's a step-by-step guide to implementing OAuth:

    1. Choose an OAuth Provider:

Select an OAuth provider that meets your requirements. Popular choices include Google, Facebook, and GitHub, or you can implement your own OAuth server.

    2. Register Your Application:

Register your application with the OAuth provider to obtain client credentials (client ID and client secret). This typically involves creating a new project or application in the provider's developer console.

    3. Configure OAuth Settings:

Configure your OAuth settings, including redirect URIs, scopes, and access permissions. These settings determine how your application interacts with the OAuth provider and what resources it can access.

    4. Implement OAuth Flow:

Implement the OAuth flow in your application according to the OAuth specification. This typically involves redirecting users to the OAuth provider's authorization endpoint, obtaining authorization from the user, and exchanging authorization codes for access tokens.

    5. Securely Store Credentials:

Securely store client credentials (client ID and client secret) in your application. Avoid hardcoding these credentials in your source code or exposing them publicly.

    6. Handle Access Tokens:

Handle access tokens securely in your application. Store access tokens securely, use HTTPS for all communication, and implement token expiration and renewal mechanisms.

    7. Implement Authorization Checks:

Implement authorization checks in your application to restrict access to protected resources based on the user's OAuth permissions and roles. Verify access tokens and enforce proper authorization logic.

    8. Test and Debug:

Thoroughly test and debug your OAuth implementation to ensure it works as expected. Use tools such as OAuth testing frameworks, API testing tools, and logging to identify and fix any issues.

    9. Monitor and Maintain:

Monitor your OAuth implementation for security vulnerabilities, performance issues, and compliance with OAuth standards. Stay informed about updates and changes to OAuth specifications and best practices.

    10. Provide Documentation:

Document your OAuth implementation, including OAuth endpoints, supported grant types, OAuth scopes, and any customizations or extensions. Provide clear guidance for developers integrating with your application.

By following these steps, you can implement OAuth securely and effectively in your application, providing users with a seamless and secure authentication and authorization experience.

  • API Rate Limits

    API Rate Limits

Our API rate limits are in place to ensure the stability, reliability, and security of our systems while providing fair access to our services for all users. Here's what you need to know about our API rate limits:

    1. Definition:

API rate limits specify the maximum number of requests that can be made to our API within a certain time period. These limits help prevent abuse, ensure system performance, and maintain a positive user experience.

    2. Rate Limiting Policies:

Our rate limiting policies may vary depending on the specific API endpoints, user authentication status, and usage patterns. Rate limits are typically enforced on a per-user or per-IP basis.

    3. Rate Limit Headers:

When you make a request to our API, rate limit information is included in the response headers. This includes headers such as X-RateLimit-Limit (the maximum number of requests allowed), X-RateLimit-Remaining (the number of requests remaining within the current rate limit window), and X-RateLimit-Reset (the time when the rate limit will reset).

    4. Exceeding Rate Limits:

If you exceed the rate limits, you will receive a 429 Too Many Requests HTTP status code indicating that you have reached the limit. You should wait until the rate limit window resets before making additional requests.

    5. Rate Limiting Strategies:

To avoid hitting rate limits, consider implementing rate limiting strategies such as exponential backoff, caching responses, batching requests, and optimizing API usage. These strategies can help ensure efficient and responsible use of our API.

    6. Rate Limit Increases:

If you anticipate needing higher rate limits due to specific use cases or business requirements, you may request a rate limit increase from our API support team. Please provide details about your use case, expected traffic volume, and justification for the increase.

    7. Monitoring and Reporting:

We continuously monitor API usage and performance to identify potential issues and optimize resource allocation. If you encounter any problems related to API rate limits or performance, please report them to our API support team for investigation.

    8. Compliance:

By using our API, you agree to comply with our API terms of service and rate limiting policies. Abuse or excessive usage of our API may result in enforcement actions, including rate limit throttling or suspension of API access.

Our API rate limits are designed to balance the needs of our users with the stability and security of our systems. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these limits and thank you for using our API.

  • Securonix Data Integration Guide

The Securonix platform depends on connections to your organization's activity data and enrichment data. It must be configured with connector libraries to ingest this data from various sources, including antivirus tools, data loss prevention tools, identity and access management tools, SIEMs, third-party intelligence and other data sources to support the out-of-the-box and custom use cases in your environment. The Data Integrator establishes and maintains these connections.

A senior security professional, such as a SOC Manager or Security Architect, must manage ongoing operations and maintain the health of the Unified Defense SIEM platform and Hadoop cluster (infrastructure). This guide describes how to determine the Unified Defense SIEM deployment options in a Hadoop cluster, install Unified Defense SIEM on Hadoop cluster, configure Hadoop components, configure the Unified Defense SIEM application, configure datasources, ingest data, grant role-based access to the application, define business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities, and use monitoring capabilities of the platform to identify and troubleshoot common issues.

    Who This Guide is For

This guide is for data integrators and deployment engineers responsible for implementing the Securonix platform within an organization.

    How This Guide is Organized

This guide describes the process of ingesting and eniching data, and setting up datasources.

User identity data is information about the user such as first name, last name, department, division, title, manager. Unified Defense SIEM uses the user identity data to add context to events and activities. Additionally, this information is used during analytics to identify suspicious activities. User details from one or more identity data sources can be fed to the application.

Unified Defense SIEM ingests user identity data, correlates it, and detects anomalies indicative of different types of threats. Data ingested by the application is normalized and correlated to enable context-aware monitoring and analysis using advanced algorithms to identify threats.

Unified Defense SIEM provides connections to several different identity stores including directories, databases, delimited files, identity management systems, and identity governance technologies.

    To Import User Data

    1. Configure the connection method for the tenant: You can use an existing connection or create a custom connection. See Connecting to User Data.
    2. Configure the User Import: This requires:
      • Mapping the event data attributes with corresponding Unified Defense SIEM attributes.
    • Setting conditional actions for user life cycle changes, white listing, and pre/post actions on identity data.

      See Configuring the User Import.

    1. Run the job: See Running the User Data Import Job.
    2. Review the user data (optional): Review the job status to ensure the data was uploaded successfully. See Reviewing the Imported User Data.

      Before You Begin
    3. Prior to importing data from a file, ensure you have the following information:
    4. File Name, location, type (fixed length), file delimiter
    5. The connection method, host IP address, port number, credentials, and source directory if the file is located on a remote server
    6. The URL and credentials for the proxy server if the remote server is a proxy server

To Import User Data from a File

    7. Go to Menu > Add Data > User. The User Import screen appears.
    8. Click New Connection to create a new connection.
    9. Complete the following information in the Connection Method section:
      1. For Connection Method, choose File.

    2. Place the BioSync Adapter behind the left ear (or designated neural contact point).

    3. Attach the Core Module via the magnetized port — you’ll hear a single tone when it’s aligned correctly.

    4. Power on the device using the side button (hold for 3 seconds). The indicator light should turn blue.

Step 2: Activate via CyberdyneLink App

    1. Open the CyberdyneLink App on your mobile device.

    2. Log in with your Cyberdyne ID.

    3. Tap “Set Up New Device” and follow the on-screen instructions.

    4. The app will automatically scan for your Neural Link and verify your BioSync Adapter status.

    5. Once detected, tap “Activate Neural Link”.

    Step 3: Neural Calibration

    1. Follow the in-app prompts to complete Neural Calibration (approx. 2–3 minutes).

    2. You’ll be asked to blink, nod, and remain still as the system maps your neural signals.

    3. Once complete, a confirmation screen will display:
      Calibration Successful

    Step 4: Confirm Connectivity

    1. Return to the app dashboard.

    2. You should see “Neural Link Connected” at the top with real-time signal indicators.

    3. Run a test command like “Pulse Sync” or “Cognitive Ping” to confirm functionality.

    Troubleshooting Tips

    • No signal detected? Try repositioning the BioSync Adapter.

    • App won’t detect device? Ensure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are enabled.

    • Link not calibrating? Restart the device and attempt setup again.

Still having trouble? Submit a support request or chat with an agent directly.

  • Troubleshooting Video Playback Issues in vEvidence

    Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

    1. Confirm Browser Compatibility

vEvidence supports the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Internet Explorer is not supported.

    • Ensure you are using an up-to-date, supported web browser.
    • Try opening the video in an incognito/private window to rule out browser extension conflicts.

    2. Check Permissions

    • Double-check you are logged into vEvidence with appropriate permissions for the case and video.
    • If prompted, request access from your agency’s vEvidence administrator.

    3. Clear Browser Cache

    • Sometimes, cached data can prevent videos from loading. Try clearing your browser cache and reloading vEvidence.

    4. Test on an Alternate Device or Network

    • Attempt to play the video on a different computer or device.
    • If successful, the issue may be related to your workstation or network.

    5. Verify Network/Firewall Settings

    • Agency networks may restrict video streaming or large file transfers.
    • Contact your IT department to ensure vEvidence URLs are not blocked and that streaming is permitted.

    Advanced Support

If steps above do not resolve the issue:

    • Note the Case Number and Video ID (found in vEvidence under the details panel).
    • Take a screenshot of the error or blank screen if possible.
    • Email Versaterm Support at support@versaterm.com or submit a request through your agency’s support portal.

    Include the following information:

    • Case Number and Video ID
    • Date/Time of attempted playback
    • Browser and version
    • Any error messages

A Versaterm Product Support technician will investigate, which may include:

    • Checking video file integrity and re-encoding if necessary
    • Reviewing user permissions and logs
    • Coordinating with your agency’s IT for environment-related issues

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I download the video to play it locally?
A: This depends on your agency’s policy and your permission level. Please contact your evidence administrator.

  • Logging a JIRA Feature Request for Versaterm RMS

When to Log a Feature Request

    • The request is for new functionality not currently available in RMS.
    • The customer is seeking an enhancement or configuration change beyond normal system settings (e.g., add a new field, workflow change, additional report, UI updates).
    • The issue is not a defect/bug or generic support issue.

    Prerequisites

    • Access to the relevant JIRA instance for Versaterm Product/Development tracking.
    • All required information gathered from the customer ticket.
    • Confirmation that this is not an existing feature or a duplicate request.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    1. Gather Required Information from Zendesk Ticket

Before creating the JIRA, ensure you have:

    • Customer agency name and contact
    • Product/module affected (e.g., RMS > General Occurrence)
    • Detailed description of requested feature or enhancement
    • Business justification / reason for request
    • Priority (as indicated by customer, or internal assessment)
    • Zendesk ticket number (for cross-reference)

Tip: If possible, clarify acceptance criteria or examples of the desired outcome with the customer.

    2. Create the JIRA Issue

    a. Log in to JIRA and select the proper project (e.g., “Product Enhancements” or “RMS Features”).
    b. Click "Create" to open a new issue.

    c. Enter the following fields:

    • Issue Type: Feature Request (or “Story” if Feature Request is not available)
    • Summary: [Agency]: [Short Description of Request]
      • Example: “Toronto Police: Add ‘Event Subtype’ as required field in RMS General Occurrence”
    • Description: Be as specific as possible. Include:
      • Details from customer
      • Use case and business impact
      • Any supporting screenshots or attachments
      • Acceptance criteria, if available

    d. Fill out additional/custom fields as required, such as:

    • Component: RMS
    • Priority: (use customer-provided or assess based on business impact)
    • Labels/Tags: “FeatureRequest”, customer agency name, Zendesk ticket number

    3. Link the JIRA Issue to the Zendesk Ticket

    • Copy the newly created JIRA issue key (e.g., PROJ-1234).
    • In Zendesk, update the original customer ticket:
      • Note the JIRA reference (e.g., “Feature request logged as JIRA PROJ-1234”).
    • If using the Zendesk-JIRA integration:
      • Use the interface to link the ticket and JIRA issue directly, ensuring auto-sync of updates.

    4. Notify the Customer

    • Send a public reply from Zendesk confirming the request has been logged and providing the JIRA reference (if your escalation policy allows).
    • Manage customer expectations regarding review/prioritization timelines and next steps.

    Example reply:

“Thank you for your suggestion to add ‘Event Subtype’ as a required field in the General Occurrence screen. We have logged this as a feature request for our Product team (reference JIRA PROJ-1234). While we cannot guarantee immediate implementation, all requests are reviewed and prioritized based on agency feedback and impact.”

    5. Ongoing Follow-Up

    • Monitor the JIRA issue for status updates.
    • Update the Zendesk ticket and/or notify the customer if the request is accepted, scheduled, or deployed.

    Best Practices and Tips

    • Be Specific: Include as much detail as possible to help Product understand the need.
    • Avoid Duplicates: Search existing JIRAs before logging new requests.
    • Link Everything: Always link JIRA and Zendesk tickets for traceability.
    • Respect Process: Not all requests are approved. Ensure customer communication is clear on process and timelines.

  • CaseWorx Troubleshooting

    Root Cause Analysis/Investigation Steps:

    1. Verify HR Integration Status:
      • Check the current HR integration logs for errors or failed syncs during the timeframe when new staff should have been created.
    2. Identify Missing User Records:
      • Search the CaseWorx user database for the new staff records. Confirm whether they truly don’t exist and if there are any patterns in missing users (e.g., specific departments, recent hires, etc.).
    3. Check HR Data Feed:
      • Inspect the raw HR data file or API payload sent from the County to CaseWorx. See if the new employees are included and correctly formatted.
    4. Review Sync Schedule:
      • Determine when the next scheduled HR sync should occur (hourly, nightly, etc.) and if any recent sync was delayed or unsuccessful.
    5. Test Manual Sync (if available):
      • Attempt to manually trigger an HR data sync, if CaseWorx supports this via admin tools or back-end, to verify whether users import successfully now.
